BodyMedia FIT Advantage Armband Management

BodyMedia FIT Advantage Armband Management

After one year of using the Body Media device daily I am ready to declare this the best fitness and conditioning program available. Once you have a couple of months of data you start to see how every activity in your life effects your fitness and weight.

Walking stairs instead of taking the elevator is now a measurable effort, knowing at 3 pm that you need to burn more calories to meet your goal will get you to the gym more effectively than any trainer.

I now know how much effort it takes for me to rake leaves, shovel snow, wash the car, etc. Allowing for a personal fitness plan that also has my home looking pretty nice also. Hint, you burn some serious calories sanding and staining a deck.

Designed right here in Pittsburgh this is a very advanced product, cost less than a gym membership and all you have to do to to keep on track put it on your arm and start paying attention to how your body works.

I love my BMF! The data seems consistent with my activity. The reports are simple, easy to understand.

The sleep monitor is particularly interesting. (Bodybugg does not have this.)
My infant daughter had a rough night, and I was up frequently with her... my armband logged it all! Unfortunately, my sleep was so fragmented, it looked more like a barcode! But it was accurate!

Love my BMF! And looking forward to upgrading to the bluetooth version in the near future!

I purchased this item with the Jenny Craig diet and it worked very well for me because I was able to keep tract of with how many calories I burned compared to how many calories I consumed. It also keeps track of how many steps you take at day, how much you sleep, and how much physical exercise you do during the day.
That way you can make adjustments in your daily routine to achieve your goal.
It is very easy to use. You need to buy a subscription with Bodymedia and then you just enter what you eat during the day. Many common foods and even fast food item are listed on the site. If not you can enter your own "recipe". At the day upload the armband to the Bodymedia site and you will get your results.
I was very happy with it and would advise anyone that wants to manage their weight to give it a try.

Love mine. Great Product, Cool Company. Bought from Amazon in May 2010 and have lost 32 pounds to date. System is very user friendly and the detailed information it gives is incredible. Would recommend to anyone looking for motivation to get moving or trying to lose weight.

When I started using BodyMedia in early March 2011, I was 217 lbs. After 6 months, I weigh 175 lbs. I lost 42 pounds in 6 months using BodyMedia along with a proper diet and exercise. I have gone from a size 38 to a size 34. I recently got rid of 10 pairs of pants that are now to big for me. BodyMedia was great at helping me track my daily calorie intake and also my activity for the day. I was shocked at how many calories I was eating per any given day. You can lose weight providing you are honest in inputing your daily calorie intake and exercising. I highly recommend this product.

I was a bit skeptical about this device's ability to accurately measure my caloric output per day, but after receiving it and trying it for almost 6 weeks, I'm astounded, frankly. I have tracked my food intake carefully using the web site, and have worn the device faithfully over that time.

The bottom line is over the course of a few weeks, Bodymedia reported I'd burned 40,250 calories (that is, calories out minus calories in). In theory, at 3,500 calories per pound, I should have lost 11.5 pounds at that point. Incredibly, according to the scale, I'd lost 11.8 pounds. And that wasn't just a one-time thing. Over time, if I graph my weight versus what it "should" be based on the reported calorie deficit reported by Bodymedia, my actual weight remains within 1 pound of the weight predicted simply by using the calories Bodymedia says I burned.

For the first time ever (and I've dieted and lost weight several times over the years) I feel like I have complete control of the process. By simply maintaining a 1,000 calorie deficit, per day, according to the Bodymedia web site, I lose about 2 pounds a week, like clockwork. I weigh daily, and sure, due to water intake variations and such my day-to-day results can move around, but if I average it week-to-week, the result is a smooth, predictable weight loss, easier than anything I've done before.

While I pay attention to what I eat for health reasons, I no longer worry about the "neolithic" diet, or the "zone" diet, or the "South Beach" diet, or any of that stuff... this device breaks it down into two numbers: calories in, and calories out. And the difference equals predictable weight loss, regardless of what you eat to take in calories, or what you do to burn them up. It's fantastically easy and straightforward. I use the Android smartphone app to enter my food, which means, since I have my phone on me all the time, that entering food is easy, immediate, and not something I have to take a lot of extra time for or that requires that I write down or remember anything. I just punch it in as I go.

I can tell you with perfect confidence that if I burn another 70,000 calories according to Bodymedia, I will have lost 20 pounds, plus or minus about 1 pound. The only choice for me is how fast I wind up burning up those 70,000 calories. The rest is inevitable. It's really quite empowering.

This has been the most effective use of money in helping me reach my goals than anything else I've done regarding my health and weight loss.

I can only speak from my own experience. My exercise consists of walking and jogging. I am willing to go online and log in my calories. I just lost ten pounds in six weeks, a pound more than predicted by the program--and I had been struggling with those ten pounds. I want to lose more weight and feel confident that I can do it with this system. It struck me as expensive but it is now looking like the best money I've spent in a long time. I just sync in using my computer--no other devices. I have found using this baby-simple. No probems wearing the armband--I forget it is on, and can wear it all the time except when showering (it is not waterproof.) I feel like trying to lose weight before I had only half the info I needed--what the calories I took in were. Now I see where my calories are going. It has been a revelation--though I considered myself well informed about fitness, I did not know walking and jogging could burn so many calories for me, and thought other daily activities burned much more than they apparently do. Knowing what I know now, I can make sure I spend more calories every day in exercise than I take in, and therefore have a weight loss. Without starving myself, mainly through modifying my activity level, which is great for me.

I wanted to mention that I have read that the first few weeks after upping exercise muscles retain water and therefore weight loss may not show. This was my experience--three weeks at the same weight and then a sudden 4 pound loss. A very different pattern than when I have lost as a result of drastically cutting calories. So hang in there after you start.

I don't know how this works with other kinds of exercise besides walking or jogging--can't say. I consider the system accurate for me because it has resulted in a weight loss--almost exactly what the system predicted (one pound more is no problem!). I consider the cost a good investment in my health. I am writing as objectively as I can manage though a part of me wants to shout, GET IT. Personally I am absolutely thrilled.

I purchased my armband and subscription to the bodymedia website through Jenny Craig.

I had been on the Jenny Craig program for 4 months with a few plateaus lasting a couple weeks that were maddening since I am a very strict follower of any program I am on. What was missing was the data!

Now that I've had the armband for a couple weeks, I'm able to KNOW when my activity needs to be increased to meet my target calorie deficit of 1000 calories per day to achieve my 2 pounds per week weight loss goal!

I can go for an activity, like hiking in the woods near my house, come back and sync my armband and know how many calories I burned doing that activity! I have learned that my body burns more calories walking in my hilly neighborhood than it does on a stationary bicycle, and have changed some of my workout routines based on the data I have been able to review on this device.

I also like the fact that Jenny Craig foods are preloaded into the foods database, and that I can add foods to be used over and over, including whole recipies. Yes, its kinda a pain when you discover something you've eaten isn't already in the food list in the application, but once you've entered the food data (by copying key data from the food label) you never have to enter it again. Its saved for your re-use from then on. Since I have my routine products I buy in addition to my Jenny Craig cuisine, this has made meal logging very very simple and quick for me. All those "free" foods I eat on Jenny Craig are also counted in my total calories eaten, so I know truly how many calories I've consumed, and if I see I'm trending up, I can cut back a little on my last meal or evening snack to stay on track for my 1000 calorie deficit goal per day.

I have no complaints really at all, except that the 'activity log' only counts moderate to intense activity. So folding the laundry, loading the dishwasher, etc (stuff that really doesn't elevate your heartrate) isn't counted as "activity" for that measure. However, in your calories burned data, you can see the spike showing you are burning more than you would be if you were just sitting, so in the end, its not a big complaint.

This isn't for the person that doesn't want to put a little work into logging their foods. I log on a couple times a day to log in my food so that I can make decisions in support of my goal as my day moves into the late afternoon and evening. It's part of my commitment to myself, and it gives me so much power!

I'm consistently losing 2 to 4 pounds per week so far since starting to use this armband in conjunction with my Jenny Craig program. I would recommend this to anyone that is really serious about getting to understand how their body is responding to different foods / activities and routines!

I'll be adding the accessory clip on monitor as soon as they become available (looks like Feb 11) so that I can watch my calorie burn without having to sync my armband with a USB cable as often throughout the day. I'm purchasing THAT accessory via Amazon.com, and will leave a review of that product once I've had a chance to try it out!

I was able to find this unit on sale (-$30) and in stock since it has been back ordered around the holidays. I did not want to wait to get started.

The first 3 months service are free. They charge $7 a month for the next 9 months if you purchase a year plan and then you have to call them to cancel after that. I don't think you really need the separate display or blue tooth version which add to the cost but give immediate display feedback.

It is not uncomfortable to wear the band on your upper arm. I have not had any allergic reaction or felt constricted during sleep or exercise.

It is very easy to sync my unit by plugging it into the USB wire they provide when I am going to take a shower since it is only water resistant and not waterproof. The sync starts right up and I can also view the information and log my food on my bodymedia fit iphone app.

It tracks my exercise, my steps, my sleep and has a really good way to enter the food I ate including many name brand items built in and a way to easily copy a meal or typical food you eat. I really think the data is very motivating to make me exercise more and log everything I eat. I lost 3.5 lbs in the first 2 days of using it.
